Melissa's Mobile Craft Studio: Creating on the Road

By Melissa

When people hear we live full-time in an RV, the first thing they ask me is: "Where do you keep all your craft supplies?"

The answer is: everywhere. Creatively stored, tightly organized, and somehow always expanding.

My Setup

The Cricut Maker 3

My Cricut Maker 3 is the centerpiece. It cuts vinyl, paper, fabric, leather — basically everything I need for custom projects. It lives in the dinette area when I'm working and slides under the bed when I'm done.

Heat Press

A portable heat press for t-shirts, tumblers, and tote bags. I use the EasyPress because it's compact and doesn't need a full-size press setup.

Tumbler Turner

A tumbler turner for making custom epoxy tumblers. This is one of my best sellers. The turner keeps the epoxy smooth while it cures, and it runs quietly enough to use while the kids sleep.

Organization is Everything

Vinyl Storage

Vinyl roll holders mounted inside a cabinet door keep my materials organized by color and type.

Tool Cart

A rolling utility cart holds my most-used tools. It rolls to wherever I'm working and tucks into the closet when we're moving.

Selling from the Road

I sell through Etsy and at local craft fairs when we're parked somewhere for a while. Shipping from an RV means regular trips to the post office, but most campgrounds are near a town.

The Creative Life

Living in an RV doesn't mean giving up your passions — it means adapting them. My studio is smaller than most closets, but I've made more things in this tiny space than I ever did in a house. Less space, more intention.

If you're a fellow maker thinking about RV life — bring your tools. You'll find a way to make it work.
