Instead of pulling into another campground and plugging in, you park at a vineyard and do a tasting. You pull up to a lavender farm and the kids lose their minds. Every night is a story. At $99/year, it pays for itself in 2-3 stays and gives your family experiences no campground can match.
What Is Harvest Hosts?
Harvest Hosts is a membership that gives you free overnight RV parking at over 5,000 unique locations across North America — wineries, breweries, farms, museums, golf courses, and private properties. You do not pay camping fees. Instead, you support the host by buying their products (wine, produce, beer, admission) with a recommended $20-$30 spend per stay.
Think of it as Airbnb in reverse: instead of sleeping in someone's house, you park in their vineyard. And instead of paying a nightly rate, you buy a few bottles of their wine. Everybody wins.
Where Can You Stay?
With the Boondockers Welcome integration (now included in the higher tiers), you also get access to 3,000+ private driveways and rural properties — quieter, more intimate stays where the host is often another RVer who just has extra space.

Our take: The jump from Classic ($99) to All Access ($179) is only $80 and adds Boondockers Welcome, golf courses, Escapees, and campground discounts. If you are a full-timer, All Access is the clear winner. The Escapees membership alone is worth $50.
What We Love
Experiences Over Campgrounds 10/10
This is the reason Harvest Hosts exists and the reason we keep renewing. Our kids have pet baby goats at a farm in Virginia. We did a wine tasting at a vineyard in the Finger Lakes while the girls painted in the field. We toured a honey farm in Florida where the beekeeper taught Rose and Lily how bees make wax. These are not campground memories — they are life memories.
No other membership creates moments like this. TT gives us a place to park. Harvest Hosts gives us a reason to stop.
Homeschool Gold 10/10
For homeschool families, Harvest Hosts is curriculum that parks itself. A night at a working dairy farm covers agriculture, biology, and economics. A museum stay handles history. A brewery tour (for the adults) teaches chemistry and entrepreneurship. We have built entire lesson weeks around Harvest Hosts stops.
The App & Booking Experience 8/10
The app is well-designed — search by location, filter by host type, read reviews with photos, and request your stay. Most hosts respond within hours. The RV LIFE integration means you can find Harvest Hosts stops right inside Trip Wizard when planning your route.
Booking is typically done 1-3 days before arrival, which fits the spontaneous travel style perfectly. Some popular hosts in peak season book up, but we have rarely been shut out if we plan a few days ahead.
Cost Savings 8/10
The math is simple. Average campground night: $40-$80. Harvest Hosts night: $0 + $20-$30 at the host. You save $20-$50 per night, and you get wine/beer/produce/experiences instead of a campground receipt. The membership pays for itself in 2-3 stays.
We average 15-20 Harvest Hosts nights per year. At $40/night savings, that is $600-$800 saved annually — on a $99-$179 membership. The ROI is not even close.
What Could Be Better
One-Night Limit
Most Harvest Hosts locations are one-night stays. Some allow 2-3 nights, but it is not the norm. For full-timers used to 14-21 night TT stays, Harvest Hosts is a spice, not the main dish. You use it between longer stays, not as your base.
No Hookups
Most hosts do not offer electric, water, or sewer hookups. You are dry camping. Your RV must be self-contained — interior toilet, kitchen, holding tanks. If you are not comfortable boondocking for a night, this is a challenge. (Boondockers Welcome hosts are better here — 75% offer hookups.)
Self-Contained Requirement
Harvest Hosts requires a fully self-contained RV with an interior toilet. No tent camping, no pop-ups without bathrooms, no vans without toilets. This is non-negotiable and they will enforce it.
The "Recommended Spend"
The $20-$30 recommended spend is not technically mandatory, but if you show up and buy nothing, you are ruining it for everyone. We typically spend $30-$60 per stop — wine adds up fast. Budget for it. The stay is free; the experience is not.
Peak Season Availability
Popular hosts in wine country, coastal areas, and fall foliage regions book up fast. If you want a specific winery on a Saturday in October, request it a week ahead. Weekday stays are almost always available.
No Kids Activities
There are no playgrounds, pools, or organized activities. Your kids need to be comfortable entertaining themselves at a farm or vineyard for an evening. Ours are, but younger kids who need structured entertainment might struggle.

How We Actually Use Harvest Hosts
Our Full-Timer Strategy
Thousand Trails is our home base — 14-21 nights at a park. But between TT parks, we have 1-2 travel days with nowhere to stay. Instead of paying $50+ for a random campground or sleeping in a Walmart parking lot, we book a Harvest Hosts stop. It turns dead travel time into the highlight of the week.
Example route: TT Orlando (21 nights) → Harvest Hosts at a honey farm near Ocala (1 night) → Harvest Hosts at a brewery outside Jacksonville (1 night) → The Oaks at Point South (1 night) → PA Dutch Country (21 nights). Those two HH nights saved us $80-$100 in campground fees and gave the kids experiences they still talk about.

Who Should Get Harvest Hosts?

Full-time RV families who homeschool. The educational value alone justifies the cost. Farms, museums, historical sites — it is field trip after field trip, and you are sleeping there.

Couples who love food and wine. If your idea of a perfect evening is a wine tasting followed by sleeping 50 feet from the vineyard, this membership was literally made for you.

Full-timers who use TT/Encore. Harvest Hosts fills the gaps between TT parks perfectly. Use TT for base camps, HH for travel days. They were designed to work together.
Maybe
Weekend warriors. If you only camp a few times a year, you need 2-3 HH stays to break even. Doable, but make sure you will actually use it.
Skip If
You need hookups every night. If you cannot dry camp for one night, or your RV is not self-contained, Harvest Hosts will not work for you.
Pro Tips for Harvest Hosts Members
- Get All Access. The $80 jump from Classic to All Access adds Boondockers Welcome (3,000+ properties with hookups), golf courses, Escapees, and campground discounts. It is the best value tier by far.
- Request stays 2-3 days ahead. Same-day requests work sometimes, but planning ahead ensures you get the host you want — especially on weekends and in peak season.
- Actually spend money at the host. The "free" stay works because members support the business. Buy their wine, their produce, their admission. $30-$50 is fair and keeps hosts in the program.
- Read the host profile carefully. Some hosts have specific arrival windows, noise policies, or pet restrictions. Showing up at 10pm when they said "arrive by 5pm" burns bridges for everyone.
- Leave a review. Hosts depend on good reviews to attract more members. If you had a great stay, take 5 minutes to leave a review with photos. It is how you pay it forward.
- Use with RV LIFE Trip Wizard. Harvest Hosts locations show up right inside RV LIFE's route planner. Build your TT-to-TT route and drop HH stops in the gaps — it takes 5 minutes.
- Arrive with full tanks, leave with empty ones. Most hosts have no dump station. Make sure your fresh water is full and your holding tanks are empty before you arrive. One night of dry camping is easy if you are prepared.
- Bring the kids into the experience. Do not just park and close the blinds. Walk the farm, ask the winemaker questions, let the kids explore. The experience is the whole point.
The Bottom Line
Harvest Hosts is the membership that made our family fall in love with the in-between. Every other membership is about where you stay — Harvest Hosts is about what happens when you get there.

At $99-$179/year, it is the cheapest membership we have and the one that creates the most stories per dollar. We rate it 8 out of 10 — it loses points for the one-night limit and no hookups, but gains them all back in experiences no other membership can touch.
