The Full Review

We have stopped at The Oaks at Point South twice now, both times as an overnight on the I-95 corridor between Pennsylvania and Florida. Both times, it served its purpose perfectly. Both times, we felt zero urge to stay an additional night.

Point South is a tiny crossroads in rural South Carolina, notable mainly for its gas stations and fast-food joints clustered at the I-95 interchange. The TT park is about a mile off the highway, tucked back in a canopy of live oaks draped with Spanish moss. The setting is genuinely prettier than the location deserves.

Site & Setup 12/20

Sites are a mix of gravel and grass under the oak canopy. Most are reasonably level but the ground can be soft after rain, which is frequent in lowcountry South Carolina. Our back-in site was adequate for the motorhome but tight for maneuvering. The pull-throughs are better if you are just overnighting. Hookups are standard TT fare. Full hookups on premium sites, water and electric on standard. Nothing broken, nothing impressive.

Connectivity 10/20

Cell service is mediocre. Verizon and T-Mobile both hover around three bars of 4G. The park Wi-Fi is free at the clubhouse but do not expect to work from your site. Starlink worked when we deployed it. For a one-night transit, connectivity barely matters. For a longer stay, you would struggle to work remotely.

Offspring & Family 7/15

The pool was open during our September visit and closed in April. It is small and basic. The playground is older equipment that meets minimum standards. There is not much here for kids beyond running around under the oaks. Our kids entertained themselves by hunting for acorns and watching the Spanish moss sway. For a one-night stay, that was enough. For anything longer, they would need entertainment from elsewhere.

Unity & Community 6/10

Both visits were quiet. The park was lightly occupied, mostly transit traffic like us plus a few long-term seasonal rigs. Interactions were minimal but pleasant. The check-in process was smooth both times. It is not a community park. It is a place where people stop, sleep, and leave.

Territory & Location 10/15

Yemassee is not a destination. The nearest real town is Beaufort, about 20 miles southeast, which is genuinely charming if you have time. Groceries are limited to a Dollar General a mile away and a Walmart 20 miles out. The oak-draped setting gives the park more visual appeal than the area deserves. If you have a few extra hours, Beaufort and Hunting Island State Park are worth the detour.

Essentials & Facilities 8/10

The bathhouse was cleaner than expected. Functional, well-lit, and maintained. The laundry room has working machines. The park does not have a camp store, but the I-95 interchange has gas stations, Waffle House, and fast food within a mile. For a transit stop, that covers the essentials.

Dollars & Value 8/10

With a TT membership, standard sites are free. Even the premium sites are modestly priced. For a free overnight on I-95, the value is excellent. You are getting a safe, reasonably maintained park with hookups and a pretty setting for zero cost. That is hard to argue with.
