Rocking R RV Park Review — Brady, TX

The Full Review

We were heading west on US-87 and needed a safe place to park the Class A for the night. Brady, Texas isn’t exactly a destination — it bills itself as the “Heart of Texas” (literally, they claim it’s the geographic center) — but Rocking R came up as a clean, affordable option with full hookups. We called ahead, Marti the owner answered on the first ring, and we had a spot waiting when we rolled in around 5 p.m.

The park sits on a ranch that’s been in operation for over a hundred years, and it feels like it. You pull off the highway onto a gravel road and you’re immediately on ranch land. Deer, bison, and wild turkeys wander the property. The kids pressed their faces to the windows for a solid ten minutes. For a one-night stop, that kind of novelty goes a long way. Marti greeted us at the gate, pointed us to our site, and gave us a quick rundown of the property. No kiosk, no app, no corporate check-in process — just a rancher welcoming travelers.

The sites are gravel, mostly level, with both pull-throughs and back-ins. We took a pull-through and had no trouble fitting our 40-footer. Hookups worked without issues: water pressure was fine, sewer connected clean, and we had solid 50-amp power all night. There’s a fenced dog area for pets. WiFi is available and worked well enough for checking email. Cell signal on T-Mobile was decent for central Texas — not blazing fast, but usable.

What Rocking R doesn’t have is everything else. No pool. No playground. No showers or laundry that we saw. No camp store. Brady itself has a Walmart and a few restaurants, but you’re not going to spend a week here unless you really love small-town Texas. As a transit stop, though, it’s exactly right: safe, clean, quiet, friendly, and fairly priced. We’d stop here again without hesitation.

Site & Setup 15/20

The gravel pads are well-maintained and mostly level — we only needed minimal leveling. Full hookups (water, sewer, electric) at every site with 30/50 amp service. Pull-throughs are long enough for big rigs. The ranch setting means you get some natural spacing between sites, and there are scattered mesquite trees that provide a bit of shade in the afternoon. Not a manicured resort by any stretch, but the basics are done right.

Connectivity 14/20

T-Mobile pulled a solid 3–4 bars in central Texas hill country. Starlink worked but wasn’t as strong as we get in more open terrain — still usable. The park WiFi surprised us: it actually worked for basic browsing and email. If you need to work remotely for a night, you can make it happen here on cellular.

Offspring & Family 4/15

This is where Rocking R takes its biggest hit. No playground, no pool, no organized activities. The ranch animals — deer, bison, and turkeys — are genuinely interesting for kids, but the novelty wears off in about 20 minutes. It’s safe and quiet, which counts for something with little ones, but if you’re staying more than one night with kids, they’re going to be bored.

Unity & Community 8/10

Marti, the owner, is the reason this category scores so well. She’s warm, welcoming, and genuinely happy to have you on her family’s ranch. The park is small enough that it feels personal. Noise-wise, it’s mostly dead quiet except for the occasional ranch sounds — which, honestly, is part of the charm. You might hear cattle or wildlife, but you won’t hear highway noise or partying neighbors.

Territory & Location 9/15

Brady is a small town in the geographic heart of Texas. There’s a Walmart and a few local restaurants for supplies, but that’s about it. Brady Lake is nearby if you want to fish. The Heart of Texas Historical Museum is a quick visit. The World Championship Goat Cook Off happens annually if your timing is right. The scenery is classic Texas hill country — rolling ranch land, big skies, and not much else. Highway access on US-87 is excellent, which is the real point: this is a stopover park, not a destination.

Essentials & Facilities 7/10

We didn’t see dedicated showers or a laundry room, but we also didn’t need them for a one-night stay. The hookups themselves — which are the essentials that matter for self-contained rigs — worked perfectly. Water pressure was good, sewer drained clean, and the electrical pedestal was in solid shape. If you’re in a smaller rig without onboard facilities, you might want to call ahead and ask about bathhouse availability.

Dollars & Value 8/10

$40/night for full hookups with 30/50 amp in 2026 is fair — especially in rural Texas where options are limited. No resort fees, no hidden charges. You call Marti, she tells you the rate, you show up and pay. Simple. For what you get — level site, full hookups, clean and safe overnight on a working ranch — the value is solid.
